  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 12-14 balls 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Crispy and cheesy mashed potato balls air-fried to golden perfection. These air fryer cheesy mashed potato bites are a delicious way to use leftover mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (chilled and firm)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • Cooking spray or a little olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes: Use chilled and firm mashed potatoes. If using leftovers, ensure they are completely cooled. If making fresh, cool them to room temperature before proceeding.
  2. Make the Potato Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well incorporated.
  3. Form the Potato Balls: Take about 2 tablespoons of the potato mixture and roll it into a ball. Repeat with the remaining mixture to get around 12-14 balls.
  4. Coat the Potato Balls: Roll each potato ball in the breadcrumbs, ensuring full coating for a crunchy exterior.
  5. Air Fry the Potato Balls: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or drizzle a little olive oil over the potato balls. Place the balls in a single layer, not touching. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve: Remove the air fried potato cheese balls from the air fryer. Let them cool for a minute before serving. Serve with ketchup, ranch dressing, or marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For spicy mashed potato balls, add cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the mixture.
  • For bacon mashed potato balls, add crumbled cooked bacon.
  • For herb mashed potato balls, mix in fresh chives, parsley, or thyme.
  • For vegan mashed potato balls, use dairy-free cheese and a flax egg.
  • These easy air fryer potato snacks are a great alternative to deep fried mashed potato balls.
  • This is a perfect leftover mashed potato air fryer recipe.
